chorizo & tomato salad

Saturday dawns, and it's a scorcher! Naturally rather than properly enjoy it, we spend it shopping, tidying the garden and going to the playground. Still it's all very pleasant and relaxed, and monkey is on fine form.

Rather than last weeks fish-fest, this week's key message is 'frugality', it being the last week of the month an all.

So, whilst somebody is relaxing during his afternoon snoopy snooze, we use up the asparagus in the fridge for a sunny lunch of pasta with asparagus, pesto and poached egg. With a glass a champagne - shabby chic innit!

Post-snooze-and-trip-to-the-park, we have classic chorizo and tomato salad, partially inspired by this week's Jamie Does... Andalucia. I'm going to say it now, I've been cooking this for years (well almost four), it's a Fino recipe, but I Jamie's addition of goats cheese and iberico ham are pretty inspired. We have it with pan del tigre.

Food of the Milos
Toast and cheese for breakfast and then the little bugger bought us two bars in chocolate in bed, which he'd liberated from the fridge. Snacks-a-go-go, during the trip around Sainsburys, and a picnic of grapes, rice cakes and apricots on top of the climbing frame. As he's been so good he gets his baby-crack for dinner - sausages! Loads of them.

  1. A friend has given me Jamie does Spain, Italy, Sweden etc for an early birthday present. I can't wait to get inspired, unfortunately the temperature has dropped by about 10 degress and its currently really cold. Not the best weather for light mediterranean cooking, more hearty stews!

  2. To be honest the shows are a bit hit and miss, mainy because he can be such a knob. Andalusia was good, Marrakesh was poor, but you'll be pleased to know this week it's Stockholm, so you should be good for some pre-winter dishes.

You well? Summer is definitely edging closer here. It's lovely sat in the square at lunchtime, although I may have to make a move from marmite sandwiches to something more summery

  3. Marmite sandwiches are an abomination, only one thing worse - vegimite sandwiches! Amy cannot live without the new vegimite. Did you hear about it? Its a more spreadable vegimite with a mix of cream cheese and lives in the fridge. Someone brainiac held a competition to name it and they decided on iSnack 2.0 and when they released it everyone just thought it was the stupidest name EVER so they had to go back to the drawing board and renamed it Cheesybite. Its still YUCK!
